  ABOUT

Vieux Farka Touré is a Malian musician and son of legendary Malian guitar player Ali Farka Touré. He was born in Niafunké, Mali. Against his father's wishes, Vieux secretly practiced guitar until he eventually convinced Ali to give him his blessing. Ali passed away while Vieux was recording his debut album but in his final days, he was proud of his son’s talent and passion.

While performing live, Vieux’s music takes on a life of its own, his speed and dexterity on the guitar, as well as his palpable charisma and luminous smile, captivate all audiences in spite of any language barriers. Historically, much of modern music has its roots in the rhythms of Africa. Vieux’s early music drew heavily on the West African tradition that is echoed in American blues. His collaborations with  renowned artists from around the world have been highly acclaimed.

Vieux is devoted to his homeland of Mali and his humanitarian efforts there led him to create AMAHREC SAHEL to promote indigenous development and provide support services to rural communities
